Terms & Booking Conditions
Plain-English terms for booking a safari with us: payment, changes, cancellations and what we each agree to.
Last updated: 2 November 2026
These terms explain how booking and paying for a safari with Strenger African Safaris works, what happens if plans change, and what we each agree to. Please read them before you book. If anything is unclear, message us on WhatsApp or by email and we will explain it in plain words.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Strenger African Safaris is a safari operator based in Arusha, Tanzania. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Strenger African Safaris, and "you" means the person who books and everyone travelling in their party.
These terms apply to every booking made through our website, WhatsApp, email or by phone. When you confirm a booking or pay a deposit, you agree to them on behalf of everyone in your party.
Our Travel Guide is part of these terms for health, visa and safety information.
2. Prices and what is included
- Prices are in US dollars per person per day, and the trip total is the daily price multiplied by the number of days. Prices shown in Tanzanian shillings, euros or yuan are estimates at the website's exchange rate. You are charged in US dollars unless we agree otherwise.
- Each tour has three levels: Safari only, With accommodation and All inclusive. The page and your booking confirmation list exactly what each level covers. If something is not listed, it is not included.
- Children: on most tours, children under 4 travel free and children aged 4 to 12 pay half price on the activities and room share. A few packages, such as the AFCON 2027 packages and the Makuyuni packs, use different ages (0 to 5 free, 6 to 12 half price). The package page and the checkout show the ages that apply to your tour. Adults are 13 and over on most tours; day trips such as the balloon safari have one fixed price per person. Please give the correct ages when you book.
- Park fees, lodge rates and fuel can change. We confirm your final price in writing before you pay. Once you have paid a deposit against a written price, we will not raise that price except for a government-imposed fee or tax that comes into force after you book, and we will tell you before we do.
- Not included unless your booking says so: international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, personal items, drinks outside the meal plan and optional extras.
3. How booking works
- You choose a tour, level and start date and send a booking or enquiry through the website. Dates and places are checked against availability.
- On the website, a booking that has not been paid is held for 2 hours. If no payment is received in that time, the places are released and you may need to book again.
- Your booking is confirmed when we receive your deposit (or full payment) and send your booking confirmation with a reference number. Keep this reference for all messages with us.
- If you book by phone or WhatsApp, we send the same confirmation and payment instructions.
- We may decline or cancel a booking if the information given is wrong, or if the trip cannot run safely. In that case, we refund anything you have paid for it.
4. Payment
- A 30% deposit confirms your booking. The balance is due 30 days before departure. If you book less than 30 days before departure, we may ask for the full amount at booking.
- You can also choose to pay the full amount at booking.
- We accept the payment methods shown at checkout, such as cards and mobile money. Payment providers charge a small transaction fee, usually about 1 to 3%, which is deducted from each payment and is not part of the trip price.
- Card and mobile-money payments are handled by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card details.
- If the balance is not paid on time, we may treat the booking as cancelled by you (see section 7), after reminding you first.
5. Changes you make
- Tell us as early as you can if you want to change dates, the people travelling or the tour. We will do our best to make the change, subject to availability.
- Changes may mean a different price. If the lodges or parks we have already booked charge us for the change, we pass that cost on to you and show it to you before you agree.
- Changing a traveller's name is usually possible until the balance is due. Airlines have their own rules for flights, which are not part of our service.
6. Travel insurance, passports, visas and health
- We strongly recommend that every traveller has travel insurance that covers medical treatment, emergency evacuation, cancellation and baggage, including safari activities. Tanzanian authorities may also require proof of travel insurance on arrival, so please check the latest rules.
- You are responsible for having a valid passport, the right visa, any required vaccination certificates and the permissions you need to travel. See our Travel Guide and the official sources it links to.
- You must tell us before you book about any medical condition, allergy, pregnancy or disability that could affect the trip, so that we can advise and plan properly.
- We are not responsible for refusals at the border or any cost that comes from missing documents.
7. If you cancel
You must tell us in writing (email or WhatsApp). The charge depends on how long before departure we receive your message. The percentages apply to the total trip price.
- More than 30 days before departure: you lose the deposit (30%).
- 30 to 15 days before departure: 60% of the trip price.
- 14 to 7 days before departure: 80% of the trip price.
- Fewer than 7 days before departure, or if you do not show up: 100% of the trip price.
These charges exist because we pay lodges, parks and drivers in advance. Some park fees and lodge deposits cannot be refunded to us under any conditions. If we can resell your places, we will reduce your charge by whatever we recover.
Refunds, where due, are paid to the original payment method within 30 days. Payment-provider fees are not refundable.
If you have to cancel because of illness or an emergency, tell us at once and send your insurer the documents they ask for. Your insurance, not us, is the right route to recover those costs.
8. If we have to change or cancel
- We may need to change an itinerary, a lodge or a route because of weather, road or park conditions, safety, closures or events we cannot control. We will always try to offer something of equal or better value and tell you as soon as we can.
- If we make a major change that you do not accept, or we cancel a trip, you can choose a different date or trip, or a full refund of what you paid us for that trip.
- We are not responsible for flight delays, strikes, natural disasters, government action, disease outbreaks or other events beyond our reasonable control. We will help you rearrange and pass on any refunds we receive from suppliers.
9. Safety and your responsibilities
- A safari involves wild animals, remote places, rough roads and changing weather. The risks are real, even though guides are experienced.
- Follow your guide's instructions and park rules at all times: stay in the vehicle unless told otherwise, keep your distance from animals, do not feed wildlife and stay on tracks.
- You must not fly a drone or film in restricted places without the right permit. See our filming safaris.
- We may ask a person to leave the trip, without refund, if their behaviour puts others, wildlife or staff at risk, or breaks the law.
- Please respect local people and customs, and ask before photographing people.
10. Our responsibility
- We take reasonable care and skill to organise and provide the services in your booking, and we choose our suppliers with care.
- Lodges, airlines, parks and other independent businesses provide their own services under their own terms. We are not responsible for their acts or failures, but we will help you make a claim.
- We are not responsible for loss, damage, injury or illness that is not caused by our fault, or that arises from you not following instructions, or from risks inherent in wildlife safaris.
- Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
- Keep valuables with you. We cannot be responsible for items left in vehicles, tents or rooms.
11. Travelling with children
- Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, and a parent or guardian is responsible for them.
- Some activities and lodges have minimum ages. Tell us the ages of your children when you book and we will advise on what is suitable.
- Child seats are available on request. Ask us when you book.
12. Complaints
- If something is not right during your trip, tell your guide or our Arusha office straight away, so that we can fix it while you are still there. Most problems can be solved on the spot.
- If you are still not happy, write to us within 14 days of the end of your trip with your booking reference and details, and we will reply promptly.
13. Your personal information
- We collect the details you give us (names, contact information, travel dates, passport details for permits where needed, health and dietary needs, and payment confirmation) to organise your trip and keep you informed.
- We share only what is needed with lodges, parks, airlines, payment providers and email services that help us run your trip. We do not sell your information.
- Our website uses analytics cookies only after you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's stored site data.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information by contacting us.
14. Law and general terms
- These terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Tanzanian courts have jurisdiction, unless the law of your own country gives you rights that cannot be waived.
- If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest stays in force.
- We may update these terms. The version that applies to your booking is the one in force on the date you booked, shown in the booking confirmation.
